Want to read the draft of an SF short story?

This is a 2300 word SF short story and I’m looking for readers who would be willing to give me their gut reaction to it. Mostly what I’m looking for are large story issues. In particular, things that:

  1. Confuse you
  2. You don’t believe
  3. You are bored by
  4. You think are cool

In other words, what I’m looking for is your reader reaction.

I should note that for those of you who are interested in process, this is a first draft. I wrote a raw draft yesterday as an experiment using Google Drive to let people watch me write while I was writing. I’ve given it a once over and am wanting to see how it plays to an audience.

Here’s a teaser of “A Dichotomy of Paradigm”

Ducking through the hatch of the interstellar frigate Triumphant Beast Descending, Patrick stalked down the curving corridor. He knew better than to check his ego-numbers before starting a painting. God damn it. A hack? A hack full of gimmickry? They were just jealous about the commissions he got. He turned the corner to the cramped stateroom that was the best they had aboard. His Stedi-easel 5000 had barely fit next to the tiny bunk and he’d had to stow the utility belt of paints on top of the fold down toilet. How they expected him to work under these conditions…

He snorted. His inner diva was showing again. If he had to paint in the cabin, he could. Hell. He’d painted a general on a battlefield in Peru for crying out loud. Captain Dauntless wanted a painting with her pirates attacking a ship. Jolly. He could do that. As if having a painting would make anyone believe her name were really “Dauntless.” She’d probably been born a Maude.
