The way I found out

Glamour in Glass_230I was on the way home from the airport, standing on a bus that was too crowded to have room to sit, when my phone rang. I pulled it out to silence it, because that’s annoying on a bus and saw Kate Baker in the caller id. I adore Kate.

But she’s also the office manager for SFWA and still help out with some stuff. Kate never calls me unless something has gone wrong and she needs help. So I answered the phone.

Me: Hi Kate, I’m on a crowded bus, so a little distracted and might need to get off the phone quickly.

Kate: I’m sorry– I won’t take long.

Me: No problem. What’s up?

Kate: I was wonder if you would be willing…

Here it comes, I thought, whatever terrible thing I need to undertake.

Kate (cont): … to accept a Nebula nomination for Glamour in Glass.

I started laughing, which, it turns out, is louder than my ring tone.  If it weren’t for the fact that the news was embargoed until today, I probably would have turned and announced it to the entire bus.  Best coming home present, ever.

What I didn’t know, until today, was who the other nominees were. Check out that list! Oh, and then swing over to the full list of nominees. 2012 Nebula Awards Nominees Announced.

  1. Congrats! My wife fully supports this nomination as well as Tina’s. (Sadly, I have been remiss in my novel reading.)
