Downhill sitting

We bought an office chair for me, which is much more comfortable than the dining room chair that I’d been using. It does introduce an element of excitement to sitting at my desk which I was not expecting. You might remember how my shelves tilted because the floors were severely sloped?

My new chair has wheels.

My desk is on the uphill side of the room. You get the idea.

May you have many hours of comfortable, productive rolling or being stationary if that works best.

Most people put hard plastic over their carpet where the office chair sits so that it can roll easily. You could put carpet where the office chair sits so that it doesn’t roll easily.
Or rearrange the room so the desk is on the downhill side.

R : We’ve been thinking about wedges or just taking the casters off entirely.

-d-: A piece of carpet… Now that hadn’t occurred to me.

Once I get into place, I can get it to stay, mostly. If I make any sudden movements, I tend to roll away.

How about tying the chair to the desk with a length of rope? Or chain? You’ve heard the expression of being chained to your desk?

I’m sorry. I’m giggling too much at the image to provide anything in the way of productive advice. ; )

When I was up to buy a new office chair for my office at home, I opted instead for a yoga ball. One of my better decisions.

However, that doesn’t help the chair problem. Perhaps the darling husband (Hi Rob) could fashion you a desk that attaches to the chair so you can go wherever the chair takes you.

Make sure the door to the stairs is closed.

Ha! My old apartment had that kind of setup. Any time I leaned back, my chair careened across the room and I smashed into the wall.

Maybe you could tape bubble wrap to the walls. Or teach the cats to grab you as you go by.

I’m sorry that your chair doesn’t have wheel locks.

The problem reads like a scene in a situation comedy.
And then you have such clever amusing friends and family with great suggestions to enhance the scene.
I, like Amal, find myself enjoying this immensely, but not being of much help.
It seems to me that -d- has given the best practical advice so far. The carpet would act as a brake but you would still be mobile. But that and wheel locks wouldn’t be nearly as much fun as some of the other ideas. :0)

PBI and Amal: Given how much I’m giggling at Kris’s comment, I’m surprised that anyone has been able to post productive comments at all. Bubble wrap!

Chris: I think a yoga ball might be worse. Can you imagine…

West: The casters look fairly standard. I bet I could swap a couple out for ones with wheel locks.

Ok. I’ll freely admit that I wasn’t being creative :)

I suppose I could have said use a modified soccer net.

But I figured that you were too busy to be caught up building your own wind tunnel.
